Holidays: Get Kids Cooking!
In December, more of us tend to get in the kitchen to cook some traditional family meals. This is an excellent opportunity to have your children join you in the kitchen to learn how to prepare these traditional meals and to help them feel like an important part of the family.
Have your children do as much of the food preparation as they can. Children learn best by doing and it is a lot more fun than just watching. Here are some ideas that you may want to try depending on your child's age.
  • Grate cheese for tacos, pizza or burritos.
  • Measure flour, baking mix, rice or oatmeal.
  • Slice tomatoes and rinse canned beans to add to salad mix.
  • Crack and separate eggs for a vegetable cheese omelet.
  • Re-heat the casserole in the microwave oven.
  • Peel potatoes.
  • Stir the pasta sauce.
  • Set the table and pour the milk.
  • Clear the dirty dishes.
Don't worry about the mess and above all, make your time spent in the kitchen with your kids fun and interesting. The younger that you get them involved the better.
