Attached are three color overheads. They
can be used for presentations with parents, teachers and other
adults to show the importance of breakfast on student learning.
Some main points include:
1. Good nutrition throughout childhood
is critical to a child's ability to learn. Children of all
socioeconomic levels are at risk for poor nutrition.
2. Breakfast is the most important meal
of the day. Breakfast skippers do not make up for lost nutrients
later in the day.
3. A balanced breakfast containing sugar,
starch, protein and fat gives a sustained release of energy
and prevents a drop in blood sugar for several hours.
4. A meal including a variety of foods
from several food groups will provide the most benefits to
a child.
5. A comprehensive approach best supports
the child. Healthy food intake throughout the day meets important
educational and health outcomes.
