JUNE
IS NATIONAL DAIRY MONTH - CELEBRATE WITH DAIRY INSPIRED TREATS
FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY
Dairy Council of California and Mealsmatter.org encourage
parents to prepare healthy summer snacks
Sacramento,
CA, June 4, 2004 - As summer quickly approaches and the
temperature begins to rise, the Dairy Council of California
and Mealsmatter.org would like to encourage parents and kids
to download recipes for refreshing healthy snacks that are
easy to make during the summer months. By logging on to Mealsmatter.org,
a non-commercial website sponsored by the Dairy Council of
California, parents can learn about the importance of providing
both themselves and their children with the rich nutrients
that are found in dairy foods.
"National
Dairy Month is a great time for parents to reflect on the
amount of calcium that both they and their families are getting
in their daily diets," said Lori Hoolihan, Ph.D., R.D., Dairy
Council of California nutrition research specialist. "Dairy
foods are an easy way for people to consume the nutrients
they need for health and vitality and it is quite simple for
people to incorporate three to four servings into their daily
food choices."
Dairy
products like milk, cheese and yogurt contain numerous essential
nutrients including not only calcium, but potassium, phosphorus,
magnesium, and protein. This "package of nutrients" may be
effective in managing your weight, as well as in reducing
your risk for high blood pressure, osteoporosis and certain
cancers. Whether it's protein to help build and repair the
muscle tissue of active bodies or vitamin A to help maintain
healthy skin, dairy products are a natural nutrient powerhouse.
Those are just a few of the reasons that you should celebrate
dairy this June.
