Updated Guidelines in Personalized Nutrition Planner
In
2005 the USDA released the new MyPyramid food guidance system which
aligns with the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Our newly
updated Personal Nutrition
Planner incorporates these guidelines to provide you with personalized
recommendations based on your age, gender and disease risks.
Try this new tool to learn:
- Your Body Mass Index
- How many calories you need
per day
- How many servings you need
from each of the food groups
- Specifics about the health
benefits of foods, such as whole grains, fruits and vegetables
and lowfat dairy foods - What nutrition supplements (if any) are
recommended for your age group
- Nutrition recommendations
based on your disease risks
The assessment takes only a
few minutes to complete and provides a wealth of information tailored
just for you.
Back-to-School
Food Choices that Make the Grade
The
quality of a child's breakfast and lunch will affect their learning
during the day. Yet it can be challenging to find healthy foods
that children will actually eat. This downloadable PDF, Get
Packin . . .Tips for a Healthy Lunch Box provides some realistic
suggestions for improving the nutritional quality of their lunch.
Even if a child eats a healthy
lunch, they can undo the good by consuming high calorie, low nutritional
value foods after school and during recess. These empty calories
are often a cause of unwanted weight gain. Choosing foods with high
nutrient density (i.e. high nutrients/calories supplied) reduces
the likelihood of childhood obesity. Healthy
Snacks for School Age Children provides some excellent suggestions
for snacks parents can provide for their children.
